The Old Red Courthouse on Main and Houston Streets in Dallas is one of the oldest surviving buildings in the city. Built in 1892 the Romanesque red sandstone structure is a familiar landmark to visitors and residents of Dallas alike. Flanking the courthouse, on Dallas County Historical Plaza, is a reconstructed 1841 log cabin and trading post, the John Neely Bryan Cabin, which was the first building raised in Dallas. The Old Red Courthouse of Dallas faces the cenotaph erected in memory of President John F. Kennedy by his friend Philip Johnson.
