Brussels Sights, Sounds and Hotels
Constructed on the ruins of the 11th century castle, built for the Duke of Brabant, is the gracefully proportioned Royal Square, and as a result of the site being excavated, you can see the underground digs and the main hall, Aula Magna, which was intended for meetings of the Council of Brabant, and of course, merriment. Charles V was crowned Holy Roman Emperor here in 1519. A statue of Godfry of Bouillon, leader of the first crusade on 1096 and King of Jerusalem, inhabits the centre of Royal Square, the buildings in the corner are the passionately interesting Museums of Ancient Art and of Modern Art.
Brussels Royal Square is one of the many diverse sites and sounds that you will find during your exploration of the distinctive city of Brussels. The incomparable Brussels Hotels are supreme representatives of a city you will never want to leave.
